COVID-19 Cases at VHC Hospital
- Dr. Lee stated the hospital is currently at the “high-water mark” in Covid-19 cases. Numbers are just slightly below the capacity peak they saw over the spring.
- The good news is, the positivity trend is 6.7% for the last 7 days. This is down from the past month rates which were at 10-15%. He is hopeful that this is a trend that will continue.
VHC Hospital Vaccinations
- At this point, all VHC staff have been vaccinated and close to 20,000 doses of vaccine have been administered in total to those in the phase 1a,1b groups.
How to Get Vaccinated
- There has been a change in how vaccines will be distributed. The Federal government will no longer distribute to hospitals, and will now only distribute to state public health offices proportional to the population. This means 2% will go to Arlington (about 2,500) and public health offices will take over the vaccination of 1b and 1c phase. Hospitals will no longer be administering vaccinations.
- Please note – If you have received your first dose through VHC, you can receive your second dose at VHC. However, all new vaccinations will be administered by the local public health offices. Therefore, if you had an appointment that was canceled, you must go to your local public health office website for updated information on where and how to get your vaccine.

Dr Lee’s Outlook:
- Dr. Lee stressed that even though it took less than a year to create the COVID-19 vaccine, it’s important to remember that the technology to create vaccines are very advanced. The speed at which the vaccine was created should not be a cause for concern.
- He is very hopeful about the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. It is only one dose and doesn’t have the handling requirements (refrigeration, etc.) like the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
Finally, in order to meet the President’s plan to administer 150 million vaccines in 100 days, we need to administer 2 million vaccines a day by the end of the summer. This is challenging, but attainable.
