Improvements Underway for One of Arlington’s Favorite Neighborhood Trails
Exciting news for our community! The Bluemont Junction Trail Milling and Repaving Project is moving forward with Phase 2 construction beginning the week of November 17, 2025. These upgrades are part of the County’s continued effort to improve accessibility, safety, and usability across Arlington’s beloved trail network.
Once complete, the project will enhance both the Bluemont Junction Trail and Four Mile Run Trail, refreshing surfaces, improving drainage, updating crossings, and adding new features to make these routes even more enjoyable for walkers, runners, and cyclists.
What to Expect During Phase 2
According to Arlington County’s project team, the following work is scheduled (weather permitting):
Project Area 1A: Milling and repaving from November 17 – December 3. A new pedestrian crossing will be installed December 30 – January 6, 2026, without affecting trail access.
Project Area 1B: Milling and repaving from November 18 – November 24.
Project Area 2: Milling, repaving, and restriping from November 24 – December 3, followed by pedestrian bridge repairs and improvements (December 31 – February 11).
Project Area 3A: Milling, repaving, and restriping from November 24 – December 3, with a new bike repair station added by December 3.
Project Area 3B: Milling, repaving, and restriping from November 25 – November 26.
During construction, certain trail segments will be temporarily closed. Clear signage and detour routes will be provided along the way to help residents navigate around work zones safely.
Why It Matters
The Bluemont Junction and Four Mile Run Trails are essential parts of our neighborhood—connecting parks, schools, and homes while offering a safe, scenic route for recreation and commuting. These improvements will enhance the overall trail experience, extend its lifespan, and make it more accessible to everyone, including those using mobility devices.
With completion anticipated by February 2026 (weather permitting), residents can look forward to a smoother, safer, and more connected trail system just in time for spring.
